Accessing Latent Care Industry Workforce Project

The project aims to understand what ‘latent’ workforce capacity is in our region with regards to the aged care, disability, community services and early childhood education sectors, and what barriers people are facing accessing training.

Together, WSMD and Federation Uni are working to address this workforce under-representation in response to the region’s low population growth, low unemployment numbers and a need to develop and maintain the care workforce.

As part of the project, the latest innovative training and mentoring options for those interested in working in these sectors will be tested. Specifically, the following training will be offered for FREE:

– Certificate III in Individual Support

– Certificate IV in Disability

– Certificate IV in Community Services

– Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care

There will also be a focus on identifying and removing barriers – such as transport – for people who are already trained in these areas and for those who would like to undertake training.

The project will also address recognition of prior learning for people in care industries, or for those who have left the workforce and wish to return.

Recommendations may also be made about workforce needs and the possibility of industry employer collaboration.

The Accessing Latent Care Industry Workforce Project is being rolled out across the West Wimmera, Hindmarsh, Yarriambiack, Buloke, Swan Hill, Gannawarra, Loddon, Northern Grampians, Southern Grampians and Glenelg municipalities.
