Chris Sounness, Chief Executive Officer
Chris is deeply committed to ensuring that changes within the region bring tangible benefits to the communities affected. He believes that while change is inevitable, it is crucial to guide it towards better outcomes.
With a profound understanding of the key issues and opportunities facing farmers and regional communities, Chris passionately advocates for sustainable development. Outside of his professional life, Chris enjoys cycling along the Wimmera River, occasionally plays cricket (albeit not very well), and proudly declares he is a West Australian despite residing in Victoria.
Chris holds a Bachelor of Applied Science with Honors in Biology and has earned two Master’s degrees: one in Arts, specialising in Organisational Communication, and the other in Marketing, focusing on Agribusiness.
Rowena Doyle, Corporate & Business Services Manager
A lifelong Wimmera resident, she brings a strong connection to the region and a diverse range of experience. Based on the edge of Horsham, she is a dedicated mohair producer, farming goats while also operating an accommodation and hospitality business from her Sylvania Park property.
Rowena is deeply involved in her local community, serving as Secretary of the Laharum Football Netball Club. She also played a key role in establishing the annual Battle of the Rocks Indigenous Round between Natimuk and Laharum in 2024.
We know she will bring great knowledge, energy and experience to our organisation.
Sara Barron, Settlement Services
Sara has a professional background in international and community development, with over 20 years’ experience working with not-for-profits, social enterprises, international development NGOs, federal, state and local government, community groups and consultants.
Sara’s expertise includes project and case management, management and delivery of federal and state contracts and regional development research.
Since migrating from the UK in 2014, Sara is dedicated to regional development and enhancing service capabilities for vulnerable communities. Her passion for migration and settlement drives her commitment to impactful community outcomes.
Sara holds a Master of Science (MSc) in International Development from University of London and a Bachelor of Arts (BA Hons.) in Cultural Studies.
Simone Dalton, Project Manager
In a career spanning more than 30 years, Simone has worked as a photojournalist, communications specialist, manager and in multiple climate change, community development and drought projects.
She is a graduate and former chair of Leadership Wimmera and the author of four history books.
She currently coordinates the 11 drought resilience projects being led by WSM Development and facilitates the WSM Climate Adaptation and Community Resilience group.
Jess Whitworth, Project Coordinator
Jess grew up in Horsham and recently completed a Bachelor of International Studies at Deakin University (majoring in International Relations).
Naturally, as someone who loves learning about the world and global happenings, she is an avid traveller. She has visited countries across Europe, plus Malaysia and Fiji and has many more on her list to see.
Jess plays local netball and has strong connections in the community, which is highly beneficial in her role supporting project delivery in the region.
