Background:
I was born in Thailand Mae La refugee camp and moved to Australia when I was 12 years old. We moved to Australia for better opportunities and a better future.
Interests:
I love to waTch the sunset and long drives along the coast. I also love to explore nature.
What I love about the Multicultural Storytime program:
The things I love about multicultural storytime is that we get to experience and explore new things around the town, trying out new activities and learning about new cultures.
Layla Carberry
Background:
I was born in Burma and later moved to Umphiem refugee camp in Thailand with my sister because of the civil war, where I continued my education. Later, I met my husband on the Thailand–Burma border. After we got married, I moved to Australia with him to start a new chapter of our lives. Living in different countries and cultures has helped me understand the importance of community, culture, and supporting families from diverse backgrounds.
Interests:
I enjoy spending time in nature, especially fishing and camping with my family and friends. I also enjoy connecting with people and learning about different cultures and traditions.
What I love about the Multicultural Storytime program:
I love that the Multicultural Storytime program brings families together through stories, songs, and learning. It helps children feel proud of their culture and language while also building confidence and connections within the community. I especially enjoy sharing bilingual storytelling and creating a welcoming space where families from different backgrounds feel included and supported.
