Wimmera Southern Mallee Development is seeking expressions of interest for locally delivered governance training for emerging and existing leaders in the region’s vital not-for-profit (NFP) sector.
The Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD) Governance Foundations for Not-For-Profit Directors course will help build the confidence, capacity and capability of those new to directorship or seeking to strengthen their understanding of good governance practices.
Delivered over 1.5 days (plus about half a day of pre-coursework), the program introduces foundational skills to be an effective and responsible NFP board member.
WSM Development Chief Executive Officer Chris Sounness said the highly regarded training was ideal for community members passionate about making a difference in their organisations and across the region.

Participants can choose to complete two or all three of the following core modules:
· Finance for the Not-for-Profit Director – Gain the skills to interpret financial statements, identify financial risks and understand the board’s financial oversight responsibilities.
· Strategy and Risk for the Not-for-Profit Director – Learn how to link strategy with risk management, understand board-level risk responsibilities, and support the organisation’s long-term sustainability.
· Duties and Responsibilities of the Not-for-Profit Director – Understand the legal duties of directors, regulatory requirements, and how to apply good governance principles to minimise personal risk.
The course is ideal for those:
· New to board roles or directorship
· Serving on a board with limited prior training
· Looking to refresh or deepen their governance knowledge.
Participants receive access to a pre-recorded Role of the Not-for-Profit Director webinar, along with the Interpreting Financial Statements e-learning module – both designed to enhance and support in-class learning.
Access to pre-coursework will be provided four weeks prior to the program start date to ensure maximum value is gained from the in-person sessions.
Cost is $1400 for the three modules (full 1.5 day program) and $950 for two modules (one day).
