Sharing what we heard from the people shaping the region’s future

To support transparency and shared understanding, we are publishing the outcomes from two key regional engagement forums. These sessions brought together farmers, residents, businesses and community leaders to surface real priorities and concerns, and they form a core part of the evidence base guiding our scenario planning.

Wimmera Southern Mallee Development is coordinating a region-wide synthesis of what we are hearing from communities, industry, farmers, business leaders and partners. Our role is not to pick winners or advocate for individual projects, but to create a transparent, structured and trusted process where the region’s real views can be brought together, tested and used to guide decision-making. We are deliberately positioning ourselves as an independent convener: a body that can hold space, connect perspectives and surface both alignment and tension without taking sides.

Across corporate interviews, community forums, farmer roundtables and local business discussions, a consistent message is clear: people want fairness, clarity, follow-through and a forum where their voices matter. They want to see the region move from consultation fatigue to shared choices. Our job is to bring these signals together in a way that is visible, credible and grounded in the lived experience of the Wimmera Southern Mallee.

To support this, we are publishing the outputs from key regional conversations, including the Farmer Growth Roundtable and Regional Growth Forum, so that everyone can see what was said and how it is shaping our next steps. This transparency is not an add-on; it is central to building trust, strengthening relationships, and ensuring our scenario planning and regional strategy reflect the diversity of the region.

Through 2026, WSM Development is focusing on a small set of disciplined regional choices: population and housing, regional growth and resilience, land use and agri-justice, workforce and training, and fair outcomes for residents. We are designing processes that the region can own and use long after the workshops end.

By bringing community perspectives together and staying visibly neutral, we are helping the Wimmera Southern Mallee move out of drift and into purposeful, future-shaping decisions.
